Calabria > Excursions and places worth visiting

Here follow some destinations of historical and artistic interest in the area around Soverato.

BADOLATO

Situated only a few miles away from Soverato, the spellbinding medieval village of Badolato discloses  the incomparable beauty of its landscape and of its outstanding old churches, like the Convent of Santa Maria degli Angeli.

ROCCELLETTA DI BORGIA (9 miles from Soverato)

It is part of the Archaeological Park of  “Scolacium”, one of the few archaeological sites in Calabria, it  extends for over 250 acres. Here, the Theatre (1st century BC), the Forum, the Basilica, a monumental fountain, the Capitol and the remains of other buildings can still be admired.

The Basilica of Santa Maria della Roccella, still wrapped up in mystery, holds considerable archaeological interest. It now stands roofless, at about 200 feet long, reminiscent of the ancient Arab-Norman structures.

STALETTI’

In the middle of the Gulf of Squillace, close to Soverato, rises this suggestive little town renowned for its hot1 sands and the amazing rocks emerging from the sea.

Copanello, Caminia, and Pietragrande are all well-known villages in this strip of sun-soaked land.
